Episode 15

“…It ties into women and our financial empowerment, and if we aren’t talking about these numbers, then we’re just embedding the gender pay gap, the gender wealth gap… We’re really holding women back from asking for what they’re worth, and I think getting over the uncomfortable situation of talking about money is worthwhile for all women to start doing if we ultimately want to get to a place where we have equality (or closer to equality) when it comes to finances.”

Episode Summary

At one point in her life, 🇬🇧-based @thisgirlstalksmoney spent more cash on manis than meals 💅🏼. Today, she’s a lawyer-turned-financial-coach who’s post-uni awakening to how little she knew about personal finance led her to help millennial women with money 💸.

According to Ellie (not just @shmoneyradio), “the money taboo” crosses all cultures and in the U.K., there’s apparently a “really big problem” with discussing uncomfortable subjects — “Money is right up there,” Ellie says.

With a vast knowledge about investing, Ellie lets @anastasiabarbuzzi in on how as a twenty-something, she turned out a six-figure investment portfolio in five short years, the gender pay & wealth gaps, women’s risk aversion and the effects on a “strong investor mindset”, why the investment world wasn’t made for “ambitious” women, the growth of ethical investing, and so much more.

If your brain blows up anytime you consider learning more about investing, today's episode will reverse the damage - promise. Think of it as a friendly lesson on approaching investing with a different outlook (a more positive one, at that).
