Episode Summary

Born into a family of entrepreneurs, Dana Clark was destined to start a business of her own someday. Now, she’s the founder and owner of Cool to Connect, a Canadian brand that aims to strike meaningful conversations and bring people together.

As the former host and creator of Heroic Humans, it’s not Dana’s first time venturing into business. She’s already expanded her collection of conversation cards to include a guided journal, candle, and even a kids collaboration with @ceciliakissel. That said, the journey hasn’t been easy.

On this episode of the #FoundingFemme series, host Anastasia Barbuzzi chats with Dana about normalizing trial and error for entrepreneurs, bootstrapping a biz, de-stigmatizing working multiple jobs to fund a venture, creating meaningful connections with customers and building a community, and conceptualizing products that are organic extensions of your brand mission.

Plus, Dana gives away some *never heard before* BTS looks at how Cool to Connect came to be and the facts about dealing with overseas manufacturers as a small brand.

Some days, entrepreneurship is hard. As Dana says in this episode, “There is nothing glamorous about being a business owner. I think the reality outweighs the glamour, an insane amount. It is really frickin’ hard at times and especially when you’re doing it alone. Running a business by yourself has a lot of perks but it also has a lot of difficulty.”

About the series: If you want a BTS, insider look at how superwomen across industries came to live their dreams by doing their jobs - on their own terms - #FoundingFemme is for you.
